“Homecoming”

is a movement and affect research that explores the adaptation process of the Ukrainian refugees from the state of post traumatic disorder that manifests in the body due to war and violent events. This work demonstrates the intensity and struggle of the adaptation process of refugees after shell shock and complexity of creating a safe home space. Project was conducted with real witnesses of war in Ukraine and represents the stories, feelings, their experience and memories of the life before and after tragic events. Project also represents their perception of home in a new country and reflection towards the questions: “Will they be able to go back and live in the place that has been diminished, tortured and destroyed? What has left from this place and is it possible to create a home there?”. Project discovers barriers and struggles that occur during the assimilation and exposes movement language of those processes and how they manifest in the body. The focus of the work in addition was placed on the process of establishing the systems of values, traditions and behavior patterns in order to adapt in a new society and to maintain a safe space in not hostile but foreign environments. How we can protect the authenticity and not lose the cultural background and create a home even being far away without any connection to the actual place.

“Homecoming” was supported by Fonds Darstellende Künste “Take Heart” funding program, Draussenstadt “Call for action” funding program, Foundation for Cultural Further Education and Cultural Advice,  Senate Department for Culture and Social Cohesion, Lichtenberg District Aurhotity in Berlin, Germany.

Choreography & Dramaturgy: Dmytro Grynov

“SHELL SHOCK O’K”

is a movement and affect research that explores the state of shell shock and post-traumatic disorder that manifests in the body due to war and violent events that cause real threat and danger to life. The work shows how dangerous and destructive violence and war events can affect the human body and mind, and draws attention to the complexity of post-traumatic disorders that are often hard to recognize.

“Shell Shock O’K” is inspired by the recent war in Ukraine and has in-depth research with real witnesses who have a strong connection to the source of the problem. As part of this research, workshops were conducted with refugees from Ukraine who are currently receiving asylum in Germany and have experienced and been affected by extreme levels of violence due to war events.

“Shell Shock O’K” was supported by German Federal Funding Program Joint Adventurous NPN Stepping OUT, Neustart Kultur, BKM and Schwankhalle Bremen. Work premiered in January 2023 at festival DansePlatforma in Montpellier, France.

Choreography & Dramaturgy: Dmytro Grynov

Performance: Alessandro Ottaviani, Beatriz Coelho, Cecilia Bartolino, Octavia Barvulsky.

“(Dis)connect”

is a solo work that represents the movement research on the theme of broken heart trauma. It focuses on the character’s internal struggle as he tries to find answers to the core question, “What was wrong?” through memories and reproduction of past events. It also deeply touches the topic of climate change and where humanity is going. Do we acknowledge the dangerous future or do we prefer to remain blind?  Solo represents the main hero’s journey and his struggle on the way to accepting the situation. How does he deal with the harmful experiences in the present? Will he make it to a happy ending or is he doomed to be overcome by emotions that will destroy his personality?

“(Dis)connect” was created as a digital dance experiment through a chain of communication across spatial distances and stylistic differences.  Later it grew into an independent solo work that was supported by residencies at Skanes Dance Theater (Malmo, Sweden) and DeVIR Capa performing arts center (Faro, Portugal. (Dis)connect successfully presented at various festivals such as “10 Sentidos” (Valencia, Spain), “Platform 14” & “Dance Slam” (Berlin, Germany), “EuroScene Leipzig/Ubuntu Connection” (Leipzig, Germany), Encuentros De Devir (Faro, Portugal) and Danzad Danzad Malditos (Pamplona, Spain).

“I go Iŋdeepe/andence”

is a duet piece that raises the question of independence on a personal and global level and its impact on people. Starting from relevant political events in the cultural and social life of Poland and Ukraine, we examine phenomena of independence in these countries and how this issue affects local citizens. How much are people willing to pay for the independence of their country, for independence in decision-making and personal freedom? This performance represents a way to find harmony in boundaries and trust not only in yourself, but also in the closest people and local socio-cultural environment.

“I goIŋdeepe/andence” was supported by Gdansk Dance Festival (Club Zak) & Scena Tanca Studio in the frame of the festival “Make love not war”.

Choreography, Dramaturgy & Performance: Dmytro Grynov, Daniela Komedera.

“AMALLORILLO”

Amallorillo – it`s playful anagram from four Spanish words – amar, llorar, alma and malo – which means to love, to cry, the soul and bad.

In this solo work I’m exploring how to overcome all obstacles, upside-downs and cruelties of selfishness, greediness and jealousy. I’m questioning the organic development of relationships between two people and the sustainability of it with the passing of time. I’m curious where lies the point when something starts to go wrong, when the love goes away, when magic disappears. How to distinguish the point of no return and predict it beforehand?

How do not neglect yourself while being dependently connected, how to sacrifice but not to lose yourself? The work represents a solitude journey on the way to liberation yourself from thousands of regrets for mistakes that have been made and decisions that have failed.

“Amallorillo” was started as a research in Ukraine and later found its logical continuation in the residencies in Europe. The solo was presented at the festivals Adonata and Zelyonka Fest (Kharkiv/Kyiv, Ukraine) and supported by the Summer Residency P.A.R.T.S (Brussels, Belgium) and Tanztendenz München (Munich, Germany).

Choreography, Dramaturgy and Performance: Dmytro Grynov.
